While STEM education often prioritises analytical and technical knowledge, this project positions artistic practice as an essential tool for exploration, interpretation and reflection. By bringing together digital technologies, traditional craft techniques, experimental image-making the project explores how knowledge can be generated through making, experimentation and sensory engagement.
We created a suite of workshops on eco photographic processes natural dyeing and environmental colour, textile craft and wearable technology. Participants learned how colour can be derived from the environment.
1) Creating camera-less sun prints using photographic paper
2) Experimenting with natural dyeing techniques to colour fabrics with dyes extracted from natural sources
3) Exploring Japanese sewing techniques such as Sashiko and Hitomezashi, alongside the integration of sewable electronic sensors.
